Font
These are some sample fonts that could be the masthead of my magazine. The font needs to relate to my target audience and genre of my magazine.

Imaginary Entity
Imaginary Entity
Natasha is a 19 year old, university student from London.
She enjoys a mixture of different music genres but genres like hip-hop and rap as well as electropop and synthpop, these satisfy her music taste the most. She loves everything
old school including 90's rap! She likes going out with her friends
and clubbing. She also attends music festivals during the summer and likes to
discover new artist and bands that are more alternative rather than mainstream.
Natasha is quite trendy and stylish, she likes to set her own trends and her
fashion is inspired by the 90's. Her favourite artists include A$AP Rocky, Tupac, Charli XCX,Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea. Natasha has recently developed a
taste in synthpop due to her friend’s influence. She likes music
magazines that don't cost much as she is a student and prefers to spend her
money on clothes. Because she likes a wide range of genres; she likes
magazines that tick most of the boxes, she needs a magazine that keeps her
updated about the events going on around her as well as information about what
her favourite artists are up to during the year.

Target Audience
Target Audience
My magazine will be created for a unisex audience ages 18-24 but mainly females. It will be directed at young adults who enjoy listening to synthpop, electro pop, hip hop and rap. The main focus of the magazine will be artists and bands that fit into hip-hop and pop orientated genres. .
Key Demographics
The magazine that I will be making is going to be aimed towards electropop, hip-hop and rap and music enthusiasts who like to listen to a mixture of these genres. Since the audience will be mainly students, the magazine will be in the price range suitable for people in the working as well as the middle class. The price of my magazine will be around £2.50-£3.00
Lifestyle
I would like if my magazine appealed to people who like all the electro orientated genres as well as hip-hop and rap, people who enjoy solo rappers, hip-hop groups as well as people who would like to become future artists themselves. I think this magazine would be enjoyed by people who know exactly what artists they like and are opened to discovering new artists and rappers.

Photoshoot planning
Planning a Photo shoot
The Photos
for the school magazine that I will take will be linked to the theme.
I will take
photos of students around the school to show the uniform with the school logo.
The photos may also be taken in places like the reception because it displays
the schools logo clearly and it is the main part of the school that you first
see.
The chapel
is also a good place for photos since St. Gregory’s is a catholic school, the
chapel links well with the religious points of the school and it symbolises it
well.

GLAMOUR Analysis
This magazine is targeted at working to middle class women aged 21-35.
The cover model looks right at the reader which makes the magazine more attractive and inviting to buy.
The bright pink is significant to women as it automatically draws them to it, since pink is stereotypically a feminine colour. The colour of the model's make up allows her to stand out against the grey background.
The cover lines and the masthead all link the same colour schemes. The masthead is in capital letters to stand out more.
The puff is an extra to give the reader another reason for why they should buy the magazine so that more are sold.
School Magazine Analysis
This Magazine is targeted at the school’s students as well as
their parents.
The Masthead is at ninety degrees to make the magazine look more professional and upper class. The colour of the font used in the mast head is gold to go with the logo as well as making the magazine look more expensive.
The main cover line is bold to attract more attention to the
school’s latest news.
The tag line is small but it very cleverly boasts about the
schools achievements.
The Main Image ties in with the tag line to show the latest
and most important article inside the magazine, the picture is relevant to the
article. The people in the photo look proud and inviting.
The colour of the text and puff are bright to attract the
reader and also make the magazine more exclusive. The puff itself mentions what
the students in that school achieve therefore it attracts parents to place their
children in that school.
The large amount of text on the front cover make it look more
like an article that would be inside the magazine rather than on the front of
it.
The layout of the text is too small and too close together
which makes it difficult to read.

XXL Magazine Analysis
This magazine is based on Hip Hop music; A style of popular music of US black and Hispanic origin, featuring rap with an electronic backing. This magazine is targeted at male audience in the ages ranging from 17 to 25. The name of the magazine (XXL) is very short yet catchy which male magazine Masthead's tend to be, it also suggests this magazine is 'big' as in it's popular. The colour red used connotes danger, passion, importance and action which automatically ties in with the short snappy title as well as the central image and the genre of the magazine. The model on the cover used (Lil Wayne) is from the rap music industry which shows the reader what genre this magazine is. The model used looks like a gangster because stereotypicaly the two are always put together but it also relate to the origins of this music genre. He is also looking intimidating and straight at the reader to draw them in. The tattoos could also suggest he was in prison or belonged to a gang. The cover lines tell what other rappers are featured inside and uses big names to show how exclusive this magazine is. |

Magazine Techniques
Front Cover: Functions to attract the reader. Sometimes the reader won't pick up the magazine if the cover doesn't attract them. The front cover tells us everything the magazine is about and about what's inside.
Masthead: The font style and colour will have been chosen extremely well to sell as much magazines as possible. It has to be catchy to stand out so that its the first magazine the reader spots in the stand.
Central Image: This is one of the most important parts of the front cover. The image has to be related to the genre of the magazine and attract readers. The central image is also usually connected to the main article or spread of the magazine. For example if the main/exclusive spread was about a new Ferrari in a car magazine, the central image would be of that new Ferrari.
Cover Model: The cover model is usually connected to the magazine genre or target audience. If the magazine is for women the cover model would be someone they envy or aspire to look like and if the magazine is for men sometimes the model would be a female with stereotypical features to again attract and please the eye.
Anchorage: Anchorage is used in media to attach meaning to something through either the matching of words to images or the juxtaposition of two images which construct a meaning.
For example in advertising, an image is open to a range of interpretations. To clarify what the image means and to make the image relevant to the purpose of the advert, text can be added. Thus the image serves as the 'hook' while the text anchors meaning. This can be said also for photographs attached to newspaper articles. The same photograph takes on different connotations with different accompanying texts.
Secondary Images: They may be used on the front cover to help promote other features.
Cover lines: These are located on various points on the front cover, telling readers about magazine's contents.
Mode of Address: The way magazines communicate with the reader. Using words such as 'You', 'Your' etc makes it more intimate and personal with the reader therefore drawing them in to buy and read the magazine.
Puff: As in "puff of air", this is a short snippet of text which helps to draw attention. An eye-catching graphic to advertise what else can be found inside the newspaper
Pugs: Pugs are the 'ears' of the magazines and are usually placed on the top left.
