This magazine is based on Hip Hop music; A style of popular music of US black and Hispanic origin, featuring rap with an electronic backing. This magazine is targeted at male audience in the ages ranging from 17 to 25. The name of the magazine (XXL) is very short yet catchy which male magazine Masthead's tend to be, it also suggests this magazine is 'big' as in it's popular. The colour red used connotes danger, passion, importance and action which automatically ties in with the short snappy title as well as the central image and the genre of the magazine. The model on the cover used (Lil Wayne) is from the rap music industry which shows the reader what genre this magazine is. The model used looks like a gangster because stereotypicaly the two are always put together but it also relate to the origins of this music genre. He is also looking intimidating and straight at the reader to draw them in. The tattoos could also suggest he was in prison or belonged to a gang. The cover lines tell what other rappers are featured inside and uses big names to show how exclusive this magazine is. |
